The Local Chapter

Utah is home to an incredible community of writers, and we love being able to make room on our shelves for stories created right here at home.

The Local Chapter is The Hollow's consignment program for Utah authors. It gives local writers the opportunity to place their books on our Local Writers shelves while helping us keep the collection fresh, varied, and manageable within our limited shelf space.

Applications are open year-round, and there is no fee to participate.

Accepted titles are stocked on consignment, with 60% of each sale going to the author and 40% to The Hollow. Authors provide three copies of each accepted title, and payments are made quarterly via Venmo.

Every new title receives an initial 60 days on our Local Writers shelves.

After that, a title must have sold at least 3 copies within the previous 60 days to remain in the program. We review sales monthly on a rolling basis, so books that consistently sell could stay on our shelves indefinitely.

Titles that don't meet the sales threshold rotate out to make room for another Utah author and may be submitted again after 12 months.

The Local Chapter is open to authors who currently live in Utah, regardless of how they publish.

Books must:

• Be professionally produced and retail-ready
• Have a valid ISBN and scannable barcode
• Fall within a genre or category carried by The Hollow
• Be priced reasonably in line with their regular retail price

Signed copies are encouraged!

Authors may have up to two active titles in the program at a time. Each unique ISBN—including different formats or editions—counts as a separate title. Additional titles may occasionally be considered for authors with strong sales.

Acceptance is based on quality, fit, customer demand, and available shelf space and is always at The Hollow's discretion.

When our shelves are full, approved books may be placed on a waitlist. Placement from the waitlist is not strictly first-come, first-served; we may consider genre balance, customer demand, seasonality, and the needs of the shop when space becomes available.

Authors set their book's retail price, and consigned books may participate in The Hollow's regular storewide sales and promotions.

The Hollow will contact authors when additional copies are needed. Please do not bring books or restocks to the shop unless requested.

There are no promotional requirements, but we absolutely encourage authors to let their readers know their books are available at The Hollow and tag @hollowbookshoputah

Full program terms, including inventory, payments, restocking, pickup, and other consignment policies, are provided in the consignment agreement.

Applications are accepted year-round. Please allow up to 45 days for review.

If your book is approved and space is available, you'll receive instructions for bringing your books to the shop. Approved books may be waitlisted when the Local Writers shelves are at capacity.

Please do not bring or mail books to The Hollow before receiving a placement offer.

Submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance or placement. Accepted authors must sign The Hollow's consignment agreement before books can be stocked.
